Having Roof Work Done? Know How To Prepare Your Home

Blog

If you're about to have your roof repaired or replaced, you'll need to take some steps to help protect your yard before the roofers come. While you might have already taken things off the interior walls that could potentially fall from the vibrations caused by hammering, these things should be done to the outside.

More Outdoor Furniture and Decorations

Do you have lawn or patio furniture outside of your home? You should move these items farther away from the house or into a garage or shed. There is a chance that roofing material could fall off the roof, which could potentially damage the items that you have outside your home. In addition, it will help keep the items clean from any dust that forms due to the work being done.

It's not worth the risk of having the item become damaged, especially when you can take a moment to move it further away from the home.

Cut Your Grass Short

You should also get out your lawn mower and cut your grass as short as you are comfortable doing. This is because there is the possibility that debris can fall off the roof during any roof work being done. This could include small roofing nails that were accidentally dropped or pieces of asphalt shingles.

If you don't cut your grass, it will make it incredibly difficult to find any stray debris after the roofing job is complete. The next time you cut your grass, it could potentially be very dangerous if you were to run over any of that debris with a lawnmower. It is not a risk worth taking, especially if all it takes is cutting your grass to make debris more visible. While roofers should be responsible for cleaning up their mess, mistakes can be made.

Cover Flowers and Bushes

You will also want to take some clear plastic and cover the flowers and bushes that surround your home. This will help protect these plants by giving them some added protection from falling debris, but it will also clearly mark off areas where you do not want roofers stepping to get to your roof. If you don't take the time to cover plants, you could have people accidentally stepping on flowers because they were not watching where they were going.

These are just a few things you can do to prepare for roof work being done to your home by a company like Regency Roofing. For more tips, work with your local roofer prior to the work starting.

An Amazing Transformation

When I married my husband 10 years ago, I agreed to move into the ranch home he already owned. Initially, we planned to live in this house for five years and then after a few years of marriage we wanted to buy our dream home. After our wedding, many things in our lives changed. We both got different jobs. And we decided to transform the house my husband owned when we married into our forever home. To accomplish this task, we have begun a major renovation project. The first job on our list was a new roof. On this blog, I hope you will discover the best types of roofs to install on a brick home.
